Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has temporarily suspended its flights to Riyadh, confirmed the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA), which emphasized that flights to other destinations in Saudi Arabia remain operational without disruption.
In an official statement, the PAA clarified that only PIA flights to Riyadh have been halted temporarily, dismissing rumors circulating on social media as false. This announcement follows heightened security concerns after attacks on Riyadh airport on Thursday, which resulted in three fatalities and multiple injuries, Saudi officials.
The attacks also caused damage to a Saudia Airlines aircraft, leading several airlines to cancel their flights to the Saudi capital. The Houthi group from Yemen reiterated threats targeting aircraft flying over Saudi Arabia, with the exception of those operating above the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah.
In response to the escalating risks, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency expanded its no-fly zone advisory, warning airlines to avoid certain areas due to the recent attacks and ongoing threats to civil aviation safety.
The PAA did not specify how long PIA’s suspension of Riyadh flights will last, leaving the duration of the disruption uncertain at this time.
