United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres visited the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on Wednesday to meet with Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. The discussions centered on issues of mutual interest, the current regional security situation, and the United Nations’ role in fostering international peace and security.

The meeting addressed key regional concerns including stability, the ongoing Jammu and Kashmir dispute, India’s continued suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, and terrorism originating from Afghanistan. Field Marshal Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to global peace and underscored the country’s active participation in United Nations peacekeeping missions.

He also commended the UN’s efforts under Secretary-General Guterres’ leadership in promoting worldwide peace, stability, and humanitarian collaboration. In response, Guterres paid tribute to the sacrifices made by Pakistan and its armed forces in combating terrorism and acknowledged their significant contributions to UN peacekeeping operations.

The UN chief further recognized Pakistan’s sustained commitment to international peace and security and expressed appreciation for its initiatives aimed at peacefully resolving regional conflicts.
