Experts Say Governance Key to Ending NEET Exam Paper Leaks in India

India’s National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) has been plagued by repeated exam paper leaks, raising serious concerns about the integrity of the medical entrance process. While computer-based testing (CBT) has been proposed as a solution to curb these leaks, experts argue that relying solely on technology is insufficient. They stress that effective governance, strict enforcement, and transparent administrative practices are equally crucial to safeguarding the exam’s credibility.

In a significant development, education specialists highlight that the root causes of paper leaks often stem from systemic weaknesses such as corruption, inadequate supervision, and logistical lapses. Implementing CBT can reduce physical paper handling, but without robust oversight and accountability mechanisms, vulnerabilities will persist. The NEET exam, which determines admission to medical colleges across India, is a high-stakes test affecting millions of aspirants, making the prevention of malpractice a national priority.

Meanwhile, policymakers are urged to adopt a holistic approach combining technological innovation with governance reforms to restore public trust in the examination system. Strengthening security protocols, enhancing transparency, and fostering ethical conduct among officials and candidates are essential steps. The ongoing debate underscores that technology is a tool, not a standalone solution, in the fight against exam fraud in India’s competitive education landscape.
