Cole Palmer signs Chelsea contract extension until 2034

Cole Palmer has signed a contract extension that will keep him at Chelsea until 2034. The England forward was already under contract with the Premier League club until 2033, and the improved deal adds a further year at Stamford Bridge.

Palmer says Chelsea is heading in the right direction

Palmer, who is 24, said he was delighted to sign and very happy about it. “Chelsea means a lot to me and I think the club is going in the right direction,” he said.

He added that talks with the owners, sporting directors and manager gave him a lot of confidence, so signing was only right. He also said players share the same ambitions and that he wants to help the club win major trophies consistently.

Palmer’s form since his move from Manchester City

Palmer joined Chelsea from Manchester City in 2023 and has produced a combined 91 goals and assists in 138 appearances in west London. He has started this season strongly, scoring four goals in seven appearances in all competitions.

Injury, World Cup omission and England criticism

Palmer struggled with a persistent groin problem last season and was controversially left out of the World Cup squad by England boss Thomas Tuchel.

Tuchel also said Palmer has “missed too many opportunities” to play for England after he pulled out of the recent Nations League squad. Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso defended the player on Friday, saying he is committed to England and needs to be fully fit to show his best form.

The deal is the latest contract given to a Blues star that stretches into the 2030s, following recent agreements for Joao Pedro and Pedro Neto.
