Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his congratulations to Spain on Monday for their triumph over Argentina in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final. He applauded the Spanish team for their remarkable performances throughout the tournament and acknowledged the successful hosting efforts of the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
In a message shared on X, the prime minister described Spain’s victory as well-earned, highlighting the team’s exceptional skill, unity, discipline, and teamwork displayed during the competition. He also praised the collaborative hosting by the three North American nations, emphasizing their distinguished role in staging the global football event.
Meanwhile, PM Shehbaz commended US President Donald Trump and the American people for the outstanding arrangements and smooth organisation of the historic tournament. He further recognized the governments and citizens of Mexico and Canada for their partnership in co-hosting the World Cup, which concluded with Spain defeating Argentina 1-0 in the final match.
In a significant development, the prime minister also lauded FIFA President Gianni Infantino and his team for successfully managing one of the world’s largest sporting spectacles. He noted that the tournament would enhance football’s reputation as a truly global sport and underscored the unifying power of international sporting events.
“Once again, the FIFA World Cup has demonstrated that sport is a universal language, transcending borders and inspiring humanity,” PM Shehbaz remarked. He expressed hope that the values showcased during the competition would endure beyond the event, encouraging the spirit of friendship and unity to continue guiding nations long after the final whistle.
Additionally, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif congratulated Spain on their victory, particularly appreciating their support for Palestine.
