KP governorship: Mohsin Naqvi says party chief upset over share

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said on Friday that the head of an unnamed political party was unhappy at being left out of the new administrative arrangements in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including the governorship, after Governor’s Rule was imposed. He made the claim while speaking informally to reporters in Lahore.

Naqvi said the politician had depended on the establishment for decades and was only now criticising it. He claimed that even the air tickets for the party’s activities had once been arranged through the establishment. Such figures, he said, have no standing to point fingers at others, and political differences should be settled through argument and facts rather than accusations. He did not name the party chief.

Naqvi questions silence over former FATA resources

Naqvi also asked why some political leaders had stayed quiet while the former FATA was denied its due share for years, only now voicing concern over its resources. He said the rights and resources of the merged districts should sit above party politics.

Naqvi said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa faced serious security challenges and urged leaders to help restore peace and eliminate terrorism rather than stoke tensions. “The province needs peace and stability, not political confrontation,” he said.

Fazlur Rahman opposes emergency and resource transfer

Naqvi’s comments came as JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman strongly opposed the emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Speaking at the Mufti Mahmood Conference in Multan, Fazl alleged that the emergency was being used to hand control of the former tribal districts’ resources to the federal government.

Fazl said the region’s resources had become part of the province but had now been handed over to the federation. He alleged the move aimed to seize the area’s mineral wealth and accused the authorities of striking deals with the United States at the expense of local resources. “Remember, we will no longer accept this kind of politics,” he said, adding that China and Russia also had reservations about the developments. He further alleged that foreign powers were being brought into the region, and warned that concentrating excessive powers in one authority could eventually overwhelm those wielding them.
