PPP Senator Sherry Rehman said on Thursday that no politician wants a state of emergency to be proclaimed, and that PTI had missed a major opportunity to escape a dead end. She made the remarks while speaking in a debate on Articles 232 and 234 during a joint sitting of Parliament.
PPP rejects extra-constitutional measures in joint sitting debate
Rehman said PTI’s provincial leadership had undermined its own position, and accused it of playing politics in the hope of becoming political martyrs. She named Assad Qaiser and Amir Doggar, saying they had favoured fighting terrorism.
She added that a prepared draft had been sent to the prime minister four times with amendments. Clarifying her party’s stance, she said anyone who believed the PPP had agreed to an extra-constitutional measure was mistaken, adding that the party values the constitution it helped make.
