Oman’s FM praises Pakistan’s role in regional peace efforts

Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Al Busaidi has praised Pakistan for its constructive contribution to regional peace and security. He singled out Pakistan’s efforts to open space for engagement between Iran and the United States as tensions in the region rise. He spoke on Wednesday at the 8th Pakistan-Oman Joint Ministerial Commission in Islamabad.

The session was co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and his Omani counterpart. The two sides reviewed regional developments and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Both sides pledge closer coordination on peace and trade

In their opening remarks, Dar and Al Busaidi stressed that closer coordination would help advance regional stability, trade, investment and economic development. The two governments reaffirmed their commitment to regional peace, stronger economic links and wider bilateral cooperation. They also agreed on regular high-level contact and joint work on shared regional challenges.

Exchanging views on regional affairs, the ministers underlined the value of dialogue and diplomacy in building lasting peace. Dar said the two sides had agreed not to let long gaps open between ministerial meetings. He argued that frequent contact was essential to unlocking the considerable potential for bilateral trade, economic activity and investment.

Dar said the talks also covered issues of mutual interest and wider developments. These included tensions involving the United States and Iran, the Strait of Hormuz, Bab al-Mandab, Palestine, Gaza and IIOJK.

Dar cites shared views and centuries-old ties

Dar commended Oman’s leadership and diplomatic efforts to promote peace and facilitate dialogue. He said Pakistan and Oman could play a vital role in addressing ongoing regional problems, and that the two countries shared similar views on several key issues. He also noted that diplomatic relations had lasted 55 years, while historical, cultural and people-to-people ties reached back centuries. He highlighted particularly strong links between Oman and Balochistan, including Gwadar.

Dar warned that regional instability had disrupted energy supply chains and pushed prices higher, adding pressure on ordinary people. He stressed the need to restore peace and stability in order to support regional prosperity.

Foreign ministers outline paths for deeper cooperation

Al Busaidi said the two countries had significant opportunities to deepen cooperation through existing institutional mechanisms. These include a friendship association, a business council and political consultations between the foreign ministers. He welcomed the commitment to hold meetings more regularly so that shared goals could produce concrete results.

The Omani minister named trade, logistics, port connectivity, energy, food security, technology and tourism as promising areas for joint work. He called for greater private-sector engagement, institutional partnerships, academic and technological cooperation, and more people-to-people exchanges.

Earlier, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two ministers reaffirmed what they described as close, fraternal ties. They underscored the need for sustained high-level engagement across all areas of shared interest, particularly trade, investment and people-to-people contact. Both sides said continued diplomacy, better economic connectivity and stronger partnerships could support regional stability and deliver meaningful development benefits for the people of Pakistan and Oman.
