ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif engaged in a telephone discussion with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to address the prevailing political situation in the country. Key topics included the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march and security concerns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The call followed a significant meeting chaired by the prime minister. During their conversation, Maulana Fazlur Rehman reaffirmed his stance that political challenges should be tackled through mutual understanding and dialogue.
Prime Minister Shehbaz highlighted that the federal government has exerted every effort to resolve issues through political channels. He commended Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s political contributions and his conciliatory approach, describing them as praiseworthy.
The prime minister emphasized the government’s readiness to continue negotiations and seek a political resolution but urged the opposition to avoid confrontational moves against the federal administration. He pointed out that PTI’s persistence on the long march and its perceived hesitance to address terrorism concerns have exacerbated the situation.
Shehbaz Sharif conveyed that both the government and opposition still have an opportunity to seriously address their differences and work towards a resolution. He stressed the importance of political stability, noting the federal government’s efforts to support the national economy.
The prime minister warned that protests resembling an assault or attempts at coercion would not settle political disputes and might instead worsen the circumstances. He also suggested that progress on various issues remains achievable if the opposition approaches the situation with sincerity.
