The deployment of Rangers personnel in Islamabad and various parts of Punjab has been extended in anticipation of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) upcoming long march. The extension now lasts until October 15, 2026, surpassing the previous deadline of October 5, 2026.

This decision follows requests from the Islamabad chief commissioner and the Punjab Home Department, with Rangers tasked to carry out duties assigned by both the federal and provincial authorities. Meanwhile, negotiations continue between the government and opposition parties regarding the PTI’s planned protest march in the federal capital.

Notably, recent developments indicate that both sides have reportedly reached an agreement. The PTI, founded by Imran Khan, had initially postponed its long march from September 27 to October 4. The party asserts that the protest aims to secure the release of its imprisoned leader and to advocate for the restoration of constitutional supremacy.

Despite ongoing discussions, the PTI remains resolute in moving forward with the march. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has emphasized that the government intends to implement a permanent strategy to manage the protest, cautioning that the country cannot endure prolonged shutdowns lasting 10 to 20 days due to demonstrations.
