All motorways across Pakistan will resume normal traffic flow from 6am tomorrow following the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) decision to postpone its Islamabad march originally scheduled for September 27. This announcement was made by the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP).
The NHMP confirmed that key routes such as the M-1 Peshawar Motorway, M-14 Islamabad-Dera Ismail Khan Motorway, and the E-35 Hazara Motorway will be accessible to commuters once again starting early morning. These motorways had been closed as a precautionary measure amid security concerns.
Notably, PTI decided on Friday to delay the march, which had been planned for over a month, shifting the departure from Peshawar to Islamabad to October 4. This postponement aims to ensure a peaceful and political protest, as emphasized by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi during a press briefing. Afridi accused the government of attempting to replicate the tense conditions seen during the May 9 incidents and of targeting PTI workers with legal actions.
Meanwhile, heightened security measures are expected along the M-1, M-14, E-35, and other major routes as the new protest date approaches. These precautions follow the earlier closure of these motorways and parts of the GT Road on September 23 due to the prevailing law and order situation.
