Senate Condemns Netanyahu’s Proposal for Alliance with India Against Muslim Nations

On Tuesday, Pakistan’s Senate took a firm stance by passing a resolution that vehemently condemns recent declarations made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The resolution addresses Netanyahu’s expressed intention to establish a regional alliance involving India and other nations aimed against Muslim countries. This move by the Israeli leadership has sparked significant concern within Pakistan’s legislative body, which views such plans as a threat to regional harmony and international legal frameworks.

The resolution was introduced by Palwasha Mohammad Zai Khan, a prominent member of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), during the upper house session. It reflects the collective disapproval of the Senate towards statements that are seen as provocative and destabilizing. Netanyahu’s remarks, made during a cabinet meeting on Sunday, outlined Israel’s ambition to create a broad network of strategic partnerships across and around the Middle East, a plan that many interpret as an attempt to isolate Muslim nations politically and diplomatically.

Pakistan’s Senate expressed strong objections to these developments, emphasizing that such rhetoric undermines the fragile stability of the region. The resolution highlights Israel’s disregard for international law, including the United Nations Charter, various UN resolutions, and the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ). It underscores the Senate’s rejection of any efforts to alter the legal or historical status of the Palestinian territories currently under occupation, including the sacred sites that hold immense religious and cultural significance.

Moreover, the Senate condemned the ongoing expansion of Israeli settlements and the forced displacement of Palestinian communities, actions widely criticized on the global stage. The upper house described these measures as provocative and dangerous, warning that they could escalate tensions and jeopardize peace efforts both regionally and internationally. The resolution also denounced Israel’s reported recognition of Somaliland’s independence, labeling it inconsistent with established international norms and principles.

In addition to condemning these policies, the Senate called on the international community to hold Israel accountable for violations of humanitarian and human rights laws. It demanded a complete Israeli withdrawal from all occupied territories and stressed the importance of providing uninterrupted humanitarian aid to Palestinians, especially those in Gaza who face dire conditions. The resolution further stressed the urgency of early recovery and reconstruction initiatives to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s longstanding and unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, the Senate reiterated the right of Palestinians to self-determination. It endorsed the establishment of an independent, viable, and contiguous Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem) as its capital. This resolution not only reflects Pakistan’s foreign policy stance but also sends a clear message opposing any attempts to destabilize the region through divisive alliances or unilateral actions.
