CTD Eliminates BLA Commander in Karachi Operation Targeting Militants

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Karachi successfully conducted a high-stakes operation in Shah Latif Town, Malir, on March 17, resulting in the deaths of four militants. Among those neutralized was a key figure identified as a commander within the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), marking a significant blow to the militant network operating in the city.

The operation was launched following actionable intelligence gathered from militants apprehended in previous crackdowns. This intelligence pointed security forces toward a suspected militant hideout in the Shah Latif Town area. Upon surrounding the location, the CTD personnel engaged in a fierce exchange of gunfire with the occupants, ultimately leading to the elimination of four wanted militants who were heavily armed and considered highly dangerous.

Initial identification efforts after the encounter confirmed the identities of three of the deceased militants on the spot. However, the identity of the fourth individual required further investigation. Subsequent intelligence analysis revealed him to be Suhail Baloch, also known by his alias ‘Garak.’ He was recognized as the commander of the BLA’s Al-Fateh Squad, a notorious faction within the banned organization known for orchestrating violent activities in Karachi and surrounding regions.

Authorities highlighted that Suhail Baloch had a long history of militant involvement. Before affiliating with the BLA in 2022, he was reportedly linked to the Baloch Liberation Front (BLF), another outlawed insurgent group. Since joining the BLA, Suhail had risen through the ranks and played an active leadership role, coordinating operations and recruitment efforts within the city. His elimination is expected to disrupt the command structure of the BLA’s Karachi cell significantly.

The CTD has described this raid as a major success in the ongoing campaign against banned militant outfits operating in urban centers. While the department has not yet disclosed detailed information about the other three militants killed in the operation, officials emphasized that all were considered high-value targets with direct involvement in terrorist activities. The operation underscores the continued efforts of law enforcement agencies to dismantle militant networks and restore security in Karachi.

Security experts note that Karachi has long been a hotspot for insurgent activity, with groups like the BLA attempting to extend their influence beyond Balochistan. The CTD’s recent operation reflects a strategic push to curb such threats within the metropolis. As investigations continue, authorities are expected to share further updates regarding the identities of the other militants and any additional intelligence uncovered during the raid.
