PM Engages with Iran and Saudi Arabia Amid Regional Tensions, Says Rana Sanaullah

ISLAMABAD: Adviser to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah highlighted that Pakistan’s top leadership is actively engaged in ongoing communications with key Muslim nations as the regional geopolitical landscape continues to shift. These diplomatic efforts are aimed at fostering stability and addressing emerging challenges in the area. He emphasized the importance of maintaining strong ties with neighboring countries to navigate the complex regional dynamics effectively.

During a recent interview with a private television channel, Rana Sanaullah revealed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has been personally involved in these diplomatic exchanges. Notably, the Prime Minister held discussions with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, underscoring Pakistan’s commitment to dialogue and cooperation with Iran. In addition to this, Shehbaz Sharif also traveled to Saudi Arabia, engaging with Saudi leadership as part of a broader strategy to strengthen bilateral relations and regional peace efforts.

Rana Sanaullah further reiterated Pakistan’s longstanding defence agreement with Saudi Arabia, affirming the country’s dedication to upholding this pact. He expressed optimism that ongoing conversations between Saudi Arabia and Iran would contribute positively towards easing tensions and improving the overall situation in the region. The adviser described Saudi Arabia’s recent approach of restraint as a constructive step forward, while also urging Iran to refrain from actions that could destabilize Muslim nations, with particular reference to Saudi Arabia.

Turning to the issue of regional security, Rana Sanaullah made it clear that Pakistan does not harbor any ambitions to exert control over Afghanistan or interfere in its internal affairs. Instead, Pakistan’s primary concern remains safeguarding its own borders and preventing any spillover of conflict or instability that could harm its national interests. This stance reflects Pakistan’s desire to maintain peaceful coexistence with its neighbors while protecting its sovereignty.

On the domestic front, the adviser addressed recent developments regarding the governorship of Sindh province. He explained that a decision had been reached to appoint governors of Sindh and Balochistan from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), clarifying that no prior commitment had been made to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) regarding the Sindh governorship. Rana Sanaullah noted that Kamran Tessori had been serving as governor since the caretaker government period and that initially there was no pressing need to replace him, as the situation was stable and under control.

However, he added that circumstances evolved, necessitating the appointment of a new governor to better manage the province’s affairs. He also pointed out that Tessori’s appointment occurred during the caretaker government led by former Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, suggesting that Kakar could provide clarity on the recommendations behind the initial appointment. Rana Sanaullah assured that the matter of changing the governor was handled through proper channels and discussed with MQM-P in a respectful and appropriate manner, reflecting the government’s commitment to political dialogue and consensus-building.
