CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz opens Rs.5.61 billion projects in Sahiwal

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif opened four development schemes in Sahiwal valued at Rs.5.61 billion. She also laid the foundation stone for 10 model agriculture malls to be built across the province.

The schemes she opened include a sports complex named after her, an upgraded market area, a farm supply mall and a 27-kilometre dual carriageway linking Sahiwal with Arifwala.

Sports arena and market upgrade in Sahiwal

At the Maryam Nawaz Sports Arena, the chief minister toured the facilities, met players and gave autographs to children. She took part in a cricket match, started a football game and had photographs taken with visitors.

The complex offers paddle courts, cricket and football grounds, a café and other amenities. The public can book slots online, and officials said women have been given daytime hours while men use the venue in the evenings.

At Model Saddar Bazaar, the beautification work was also opened. Officials said underground wiring for electricity and other utilities has been installed in the market for the first time. The scheme adds an entrance gate, paved walkways, benches, planters and waste bins.

Model agriculture mall and second phase plans

At the agriculture mall, the chief minister examined farm equipment, including harvesters, planters and drone sprayers, and spoke with farmers. Officials said the site will supply certified seeds, fertilisers and pesticides under one roof, along with machinery available for rent.

Farmers will also gain access to training, expert advice on pests, soil and crops, quality testing, financial services and credit support. The mall includes nine shops, a machinery display area and a training hall.

In the second phase, 10 more model agriculture malls will be built in:

  • Jhang
  • Faisalabad
  • Renala Khurd
  • Khanewal
  • Jampur
  • Burewala
  • Sadiqabad
  • Muridke
  • Pindi Gheb
  • Mianwali

Sahiwal-Arifwala road and residents’ reaction

The chief minister also formally inaugurated the 27km Sahiwal-Arifwala dual carriageway. Officials said the modern road will benefit millions of residents across three districts.

Elected representatives from Sahiwal welcomed the project and thanked the chief minister for completing it. During the visit, she directed officials to speed up other road projects in the district.

Along the route, she met residents, embraced an elderly woman and posed for a selfie with a young child.
