Peshawar police foil attack by over 30 militants in Hassan Khel

Police in Peshawar have said they foiled an attack by more than 30 terrorists on a police post in Hassan Khel. The Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) told reporters on Friday that the assailants struck the Speen Mela post from two directions, using heavy weapons fired from the Moosazai Dara side.

The CCPO said 16 Peshawar policemen mounted a firm defence and drove back the assault. The attackers had also brought an improvised explosive device, which officers defused. One policeman was killed and three others were wounded, he added.

Hangu operation stopped earlier large-scale infiltration

Earlier this year, security forces had also thwarted a major attack in Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Police, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and security forces stopped an infiltration bid by more than 100 militants from Fitna Al-Khawarij (FAK), officials said.

Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed commended the courage shown by Hangu police, CTD personnel, Frontier Corps (FC) and other security forces. According to the Director Public Relations of KP Police, the militants tried to enter Zargari, Shinawari and Naryab from the mountains of Orakzai district after a security operation began on Monday.

The attackers also tried to surround several border posts. However, timely action by police, the CTD, the FC and the Pakistan Army foiled those plans.
