K-Electric (KE) says it has lifted its temporary load management measures. The utility linked the move to the return of liquefied natural gas (RLNG) supplies and steadier power generation at its Bin Qasim Power Station-III (BQPS-III).
A KE spokesperson said in a statement that scheduled outages will continue in areas with high electricity theft and low bill recovery. The timetable is published on the company’s website. KE also thanked Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) and the relevant authorities for their cooperation, and it thanked customers for their patience.
Residents in previously exempt areas face new outages
Despite the end of the temporary measures, KE has started load shedding in several Karachi areas that had previously been exempt from power cuts. It has also lengthened outages in areas already facing scheduled load shedding, which residents say is causing hardship.
Reports said one-hour phased load shedding has begun in exempt areas. However, supply in several localities has been suspended for more than two hours.
Saddar, Clifton and Orangi Town among affected areas
Affected areas include Saddar, Clifton, Defence Housing Authority (DHA), Korangi, Orangi Town, Liaquatabad, North Karachi and North Nazimabad. Residents of Malir, Landhi, SITE, Baldia, Mauripur, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Hadeed and Scheme 33 have also faced outages. Severe load shedding has additionally hit the Old City Area and Razzaqabad.
