A lawyer representing the family of Mir Raza Ali has asked the Sindh government to set up a joint investigation team to reinvestigate his death. Advocate Jibran Nasir made the request in a letter to the provincial chief minister and chief secretary in Karachi, citing doubts about whether the ongoing inquiry is impartial.
Nasir wants the team to include officials from federal and provincial bodies, with provincial members limited to officers who have had no earlier role in the matter. He said the aim is to ensure a fair and neutral examination of the case.
Family raises concerns over evidence and police conduct
The family’s legal representative said proceedings before the inquiry commission have raised questions about how evidence was handled and how police carried out their investigation. Nasir has alleged that some officers mishandled or hid evidence, and he has voiced fears that the probe was being steered toward a finding of suicide. These allegations have not been independently verified.
Demands for the full commission report and accountability
Nasir has also asked that the complete commission report, including its findings and recommendations, be given to the family in its original form, with nothing removed or edited. The family argues that officials whose behaviour is being examined should not continue handling the same case. It is pressing for departmental accountability and fresh independent scrutiny of the material gathered so far, without assuming any particular outcome.
