PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Apex Committee has committed to raising living standards across the province, speeding up socioeconomic growth and providing essential facilities in backward areas and places affected by terrorism.
The meeting was held at Governor House in Peshawar and co-chaired by Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. It focused on the province’s security situation and how law and order can be maintained.
Stronger operations and better-equipped police
According to a handout from Governor House, the session was attended by advisory council members, the Peshawar corps commander, the chief secretary, the inspector general of police and other senior civil and military officials. Participants reviewed the overall security picture and discussed ways to wipe out terrorism and establish durable peace.
The forum directed all relevant institutions to act in a coordinated and firm manner. It said intelligence-based operations would carry on and that every available resource would be used to strengthen law and order.
Police and the Counter Terrorism Department were a specific priority. The committee decided to supply both with modern equipment, vehicles, armoured vehicles, effective weaponry and additional personnel.
Focus on education, healthcare and urban living
The committee agreed to give special attention to long-standing problems facing residents, particularly in education, healthcare and the quality of life in cities. Participants noted that public welfare, access to basic facilities and economic development depend directly on security and lasting peace.
They also acknowledged that these areas had been neglected in the past.
Service delivery and federal-provincial cooperation
The committee further pledged to improve how public services are delivered and to bring government services closer to people’s doorsteps. According to the handout, public suggestions, local needs and community priorities will shape policy and practical measures.
The forum said it would not compromise on its goals of peace and development and would continue working through coordinated strategies. Addressing the meeting, Naqvi said he could say with pride that the federal and provincial governments were now aligned on the issue.
