Educational institutions are to stay shut on Monday, October 12, following a security session led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi. The meeting cited the security situation as the reason for the closures.
Dera Ismail Khan has issued its own orders. The deputy commissioner there said public and private educational institutions will be closed on Monday, and all examinations set for October 12 have been called off. In Peshawar, a notification from the deputy commissioner confirmed that government and private schools, colleges and universities will remain closed on October 12.
Container removal and internet access in Peshawar
The meeting reviewed the broader security situation and received a detailed briefing on existing arrangements. It also resolved that containers placed across Peshawar will be taken away in stages as soon as possible. Internet services will be partly restored where needed.
Police welfare package and governor’s remarks
The meeting agreed to raise the police martyrs’ package and review police salaries. Families of officers who lost their lives will receive priority support for schooling and training.
Kundi praised the administration and police, saying it was encouraging that no untoward incident had taken place under the prevailing conditions. He said that eliminating terrorism remains the top priority and that the capacity of the police and the Counter Terrorism Department would be further strengthened.
