The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has said Pakistan Railways is best placed to explain why its pensioners are struggling to obtain ‘Proof of Life’ certificates. NADRA said it has already developed the technological platform needed to give pensioners access to the digital facility.
Speaking during a podcast, NADRA spokesperson Syed Shabahat Ali said a project is underway to provide digital Proof of Life services to pensioners linked with institutions across the country. Because the number of Pakistan Railways pensioners is large, he said the railway department must be brought on board.
NADRA’s work done, railway approval still pending
He said NADRA has completed the work falling within its responsibilities, while final approval from Pakistan Railways is still awaited. Responding to a question, he said the two bodies would need to work together before railway pensioners could be included in the digital service.
He added that once Pakistan Railways agrees to move the project forward, its pensioners will be incorporated into the digital Proof of Life system as soon as possible.
Joint coordination needed before the facility launches
According to officials, NADRA has completed the necessary technical arrangements on its part. The practical launch of the facility now depends on coordination and joint efforts between the two institutions.
