PIMS Executive Director announces major hospital reforms

The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has embarked on extensive institutional reforms under its new Executive Director, Professor Dr. Tanveer Khaliq, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Infrastructure and logistics improvements at PIMS

A spokesperson for PIMS, Sajid Abbasi, said the hospital is modernizing its infrastructure and expanding educational facilities. Logistics protocols have been enhanced to maintain uninterrupted medicine supply for patients. Procurement systems for both inpatient and outpatient departments have been upgraded to improve efficiency.

Phased replacement of aging electromedical equipment is underway in departments including General Surgery, Medicine, and the Dialysis Unit.

New academic programs and policy changes

PIMS has introduced specialized master’s degree programs in surgical fields such as breast surgery, hepatobiliary surgery, and minimal-access surgery, in affiliation with the university. Planning is also in progress to establish a dedicated Department of Thoracic Surgery.

Additionally, a new policy has been implemented to ensure a transparent selection process for house officers, the spokesperson added.
