A suspected militant linked to an attack on players in Lakki Marwat was killed in a joint operation conducted by police and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD). The suspect, identified as Manzoor, son of Izzat from Abdul Khel, was also wanted by CTD Bannu in connection with multiple serious terrorism cases.
The operation was initiated following an assault on players traveling in a rickshaw in Abdul Khel after a match, which resulted in three fatalities and three injuries. In response, a substantial force of police and CTD personnel, under the direction of Lakki Marwat DPO Sajjad Ahmad Sahibzada, cordoned off the area to pursue the attackers.
During the ensuing encounter, police and CTD teams exchanged gunfire with the militants, leading to Manzoor’s death. Police records indicate that Manzoor was implicated in seven cases registered between December 2024 and September 2026, involving charges such as attempted murder, attacks on law enforcement officers, terrorism, and other offenses.
Authorities have taken custody of the suspect’s body. Meanwhile, a comprehensive search and combing operation is underway in the region to locate and apprehend additional militants involved in the attack.
