In Dera Ismail Khan’s Draban area near Aman Mela, a blast was followed by an exchange of gunfire on Saturday, involving security forces and militants. Police confirmed that the firefight erupted shortly after the explosion.
Rescue 1122 teams recovered 11 bodies from the scene, while 18 injured individuals received medical treatment and were transported to hospitals. Other the number of wounded could be as high as 30.
Emergency responders from Rescue 1122’s Draban Station promptly arrived to conduct relief efforts. The operation includes six ambulances, a fire truck, and over 25 personnel actively managing the situation, which remains under close observation.
Police deployed substantial contingents, including bomb disposal squads, to secure the area. Authorities cordoned off the location and initiated a thorough search and clearance operation soon after the incident.
The gunfire caused panic among local residents, prompting police to urge caution. Security measures have been intensified across multiple parts of the city in response to the attack.
Meanwhile, in a related development, a clearance operation in Kohat concluded on September 19 after 22 hours, resulting in the deaths of eight militants, the Central Police Office, though some sources report seven. This operation followed a suicide bombing at the Police Lines mosque on September 18, which killed 23 people and injured 130. Militants had infiltrated the compound, leading to a prolonged confrontation involving Elite Force commandos, Counter Terrorism Department teams, and other security personnel.
The situation remains fluid as authorities continue their efforts to stabilize the affected areas.
