Faryal Gohar and Jamal Shah Open Up About Their Divorce After 34 Years

Renowned Pakistani actors Faryal Gohar and Jamal Shah recently shared candid insights into the circumstances that led to their divorce, shedding light on a chapter of their lives that has remained private for many years. Their heartfelt conversation took place during the Ramadan special transmission, Shaan-e-Sahoor, where they discussed a range of personal topics, including the complexities of their past marriage and eventual separation.

During the interview, the host posed a question about whether the couple had made any significant decisions following their divorce. Jamal Shah recounted a pivotal moment when he intended to establish an institution in Islamabad. Faryal Gohar had reservations about this plan, particularly concerning a woman involved in the project, whom she felt was not trustworthy. Despite her warnings, the decision to proceed was finalized. Jamal also mentioned that the woman’s aunt had advised him against moving forward, but he was bound by a promise and later realized that his choice had been misguided. This episode marked the beginning of growing tensions between the two.

Faryal Gohar elaborated on how these initial disagreements gradually escalated, leading to further complications in their relationship. She reflected on some of the decisions made during that period, which contributed to the emotional ups and downs they experienced. In a moment of introspection, she admitted that, with hindsight, marrying Jamal Shah was a mistake. This honest admission highlighted the emotional weight carried by both actors long after their separation.

Adding more depth to her narrative, Faryal spoke about the cultural and generational contrasts that influenced her experience. She noted that the younger generation today may not fully understand the sacrifices made by those of her era. Coming from a liberal background, she found herself adapting to a more conservative environment after marriage, where wearing a chadar and burqa was expected. Despite these challenges, she emphasized the deep affection she shared with her mother-in-law, describing a loving relationship that transcended typical in-law boundaries.

Remarkably, even after more than 34 years since their divorce, the bond between Faryal and Jamal’s family remains strong. She revealed that Jamal’s nieces and nephews continue to stay in touch with her, sending messages regularly. This enduring connection speaks volumes about the genuine love and respect that once defined their family ties. Faryal fondly recalled that when she married at the age of 23, she did not view Jamal’s relatives as mere in-laws but embraced them as her own family.

Their conversation not only offered a rare glimpse into the personal lives of two celebrated figures in Pakistan’s entertainment industry but also underscored themes of love, regret, and lasting familial bonds. It serves as a reminder that relationships, no matter how complicated, can leave a lasting impact that endures well beyond separation.
