President Zardari and PM Shehbaz Affirm Armed Forces’ Strength Against Aggression

In a strong and unified message on Thursday, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the unwavering resolve of Pakistan’s armed forces to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Speaking amid escalating tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, both leaders underscored that Pakistan remains committed to peace but will respond decisively to any acts of aggression.

President Zardari made it clear that Pakistan does not seek conflict, emphasizing that the country’s primary goal is to maintain peace, stability, and regional harmony. However, he warned that any misinterpretation of Pakistan’s peaceful stance as a sign of weakness would be met with a firm and resolute response. Highlighting the unity of the Pakistani nation and its military, he described the armed forces as a formidable shield standing tall to protect the country’s borders and national integrity against any threats.

Delving deeper into the recent surge in hostilities, the President pointed to the ongoing challenges posed by the Taliban regime in Afghanistan. Over the past five years, he noted, this regime has allowed its affiliates, particularly the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), to carry out terrorist attacks within Pakistan. Despite Pakistan’s extensive diplomatic efforts and appeals to friendly neighboring countries to encourage the Taliban to rein in these militant groups, these attempts have largely failed to yield positive results. The President expressed concern over the Taliban’s recent cross-border provocations, which he described as a direct challenge to Pakistan’s sovereignty.

President Zardari also recalled his stern warnings issued following the February 8 suicide bombing at a mosque in Islamabad and reiterated on February 22 that Pakistan would not tolerate such acts of violence. He stressed that Pakistan is fully aware of the masterminds and supporters behind these attacks and made it clear that continued bloodshed would not go unanswered. His remarks conveyed a strong message that Pakistan’s patience has limits and that the country is prepared to take necessary measures to ensure its security.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif echoed the President’s sentiments, affirming the full capability of Pakistan’s armed forces to counter any hostile actions. Responding specifically to unprovoked firing from Afghan territory targeting multiple locations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Prime Minister assured that the military and the people of Pakistan stand united in protecting the nation’s security and sovereignty. He praised the leadership of Army Chief and Chief of Defence Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, highlighting the armed forces’ professionalism, advanced training, and strategic readiness.

PM Shehbaz emphasized that Pakistan’s defense forces are equipped with the necessary skills and resources to effectively respond to both internal and external threats. He reiterated that no compromise would be made regarding the defense of the homeland and that any act of aggression would be met with a swift and decisive response. The Prime Minister also reiterated Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to peace but stressed that the country will never tolerate any infringement on its sovereignty.

Concluding his remarks, PM Shehbaz Sharif called upon the entire nation to stand firmly alongside the armed forces in defending Pakistan’s territorial integrity. This unified stance from the country’s top leadership sends a clear signal that Pakistan remains vigilant and prepared to confront any challenges to its peace and security, reinforcing the message that the nation’s defense is a collective responsibility shared by its government, military, and citizens alike.
