President Zardari and PM Shehbaz Affirm Pakistan’s Armed Forces Ready to Counter Any Threats

In a firm declaration on Thursday, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to peace, stability, and the protection of its sovereignty. Speaking amid rising tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, both leaders highlighted the robust capabilities of the country’s armed forces to respond decisively to any aggressive moves against Pakistan’s territorial integrity.

President Zardari made it clear that Pakistan does not seek conflict or confrontation with any neighbor. However, he warned that any misinterpretation of Pakistan’s peaceful intentions as a sign of weakness would be met with a strong and resolute response. He emphasized that the nation, alongside its military, stands united like an impenetrable wall to safeguard the country’s borders and uphold its regional stability.

Addressing the recent escalation in cross-border hostilities, the President pointed out that Pakistan’s armed forces possess comprehensive, timely, and effective response mechanisms designed to neutralize any threats. He stressed that these capabilities are not just theoretical but are actively maintained and ready to thwart any hostile designs aimed at destabilizing Pakistan.

President Zardari also touched upon the ongoing challenges posed by the Taliban regime and their affiliates, particularly the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), who have orchestrated numerous terrorist attacks within Pakistan over the past five years. Despite Pakistan’s efforts, including diplomatic outreach and appeals to friendly nations, attempts to steer the Taliban away from violence have largely been unsuccessful. He noted that this group has recently crossed international borders, directly challenging Pakistan’s sovereignty, which Pakistan views as an intolerable provocation.

Highlighting Pakistan’s responsible approach, the President recalled issuing stern warnings to the Taliban regime following the suicide bombing at a mosque in Islamabad on February 8, as well as reiterating this firm stance on February 22. He underscored that Pakistan is fully aware of the locations and identities of those who plan, facilitate, and sponsor acts of violence, and warned that continued bloodshed will provoke a comprehensive response from the state.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the Pakistan armed forces’ full preparedness to counter any hostile actions. Reacting to unprovoked firing from Afghanistan into multiple sites along the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border, the Prime Minister assured that both the military and the people of Pakistan remain vigilant and ready to defend the nation’s security and territorial integrity at all costs.

PM Shehbaz highlighted the leadership of Army Chief and Chief of Defence Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, praising the armed forces for their professionalism, advanced training, and strategic readiness. He noted that the military is equipped with the necessary skills and resources to effectively manage any internal or external threats, reinforcing Pakistan’s defense posture.

The Prime Minister made it unequivocally clear that Pakistan will not tolerate any infringement on its sovereignty. He stated that every act of aggression will be met with a decisive and forceful response, underscoring the country’s long-standing commitment to peace while maintaining a strong defense. Furthermore, he expressed confidence that the entire nation stands united behind the armed forces in safeguarding Pakistan’s territorial integrity and national security.

In summary, the statements from both President Zardari and PM Shehbaz Sharif serve as a strong message to any adversaries that Pakistan remains steadfast in its pursuit of peace but is fully prepared to defend itself against any threats. Their remarks come at a critical juncture, reflecting the government’s determination to maintain stability in the region while ensuring that Pakistan’s sovereignty is never compromised.
