Pakistan Strikes Back: Over 130 Afghan Taliban Killed in Response to Border Attacks

In a robust and swift military response to unprovoked aggression from the Afghan Taliban, Pakistan’s armed forces have inflicted significant losses on the militants along the volatile Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Under the codename Operation Ghazab lil-Haq, the Pakistan Army successfully neutralized at least 133 Taliban fighters and injured over 200 more, demonstrating its readiness and capability to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The operation saw the complete destruction of 16 Taliban posts, with five of these positions being captured by Pakistani forces. The counter-offensive was marked by the elimination of more than 36 enemy tanks, artillery guns, and armored personnel carriers, forcing the Taliban to retreat hastily and abandon numerous strategic posts and hideouts. The Pakistan Air Force also played a crucial role, launching targeted airstrikes that obliterated key Taliban battalion and sector headquarters, along with ammunition depots. In a symbolic gesture of reclaiming control, Pakistani forces hoisted the national flag at seven previously Taliban-held posts.

Government officials have emphasized the decisive nature of the counterstrikes. The Prime Minister’s spokesperson on foreign media, Mosharraf Zaidi, highlighted that multiple waves of retaliatory strikes have been authorized and executed in response to the Taliban’s unprovoked attacks. He confirmed the destruction of a large ammunition depot and key Taliban command centers, underscoring the effectiveness of Pakistan’s military operations. Security sources revealed that the Taliban also attempted to launch attacks using quadcopters, but all such unmanned aerial vehicles were successfully intercepted and shot down by Pakistani forces.

Despite suffering heavy losses, the Afghan Taliban have reportedly shifted their focus towards targeting civilian populations in the border areas, a move condemned by Pakistani officials. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar reiterated the government’s firm stance, assuring that every act of aggression will be met with a resolute and forceful response. He also accused the Taliban regime of resorting to propaganda and misinformation to mask their battlefield setbacks, warning that such attempts to distort reality would not be tolerated.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif expressed full confidence in the armed forces’ ability to thwart any hostile designs against Pakistan. He praised the military’s vigilance and readiness, affirming that the nation’s security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity remain inviolable. The Prime Minister’s remarks came in the wake of multiple unprovoked firing incidents by the Afghan Taliban across various locations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which Pakistan responded to with immediate and effective countermeasures.

Political leaders across the spectrum have voiced their support for the military’s actions. Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon lamented Afghanistan’s ingratitude despite Pakistan’s decades-long hospitality towards millions of Afghan refugees. Meanwhile, MQM Chairman Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui accused the Afghan Taliban of acting as proxies for India, condemning their attacks on Pakistani border areas. Parliamentary Secretary for Information Barrister Daniyal Chaudhary highlighted the presence of banned outfits operating within Afghanistan, reiterating Pakistan’s right to self-defense and its commitment to eradicating terrorism from the region.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also praised the Pakistani military’s swift and decisive response, saluting the forces for delivering a fitting reply to the Taliban’s aggression. She emphasized that the militants and their supporters have faced humiliation before and will continue to do so. The recent mortar shelling in Bajaur, which injured five civilians including three women, further underscores the volatile security situation along the border.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting condemned the Taliban’s miscalculation in initiating unprovoked firing across multiple sectors including Chitral, Khyber, Mohmand, Kurram, and Bajaur districts. It reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to safeguarding its borders and citizens, stating that punitive actions against the Taliban would persist as necessary. Early reports from the frontline indicate heavy casualties on the Afghan side, with multiple checkpoints and military equipment destroyed during the engagements.

In a related development, Pakistan’s security forces conducted a follow-up sanitization operation in Zhob district of Balochistan, killing 10 terrorists and further consolidating control in the region. These coordinated efforts reflect Pakistan’s broader strategy to maintain stability and security along its western frontier amid ongoing challenges posed by militant groups.

Overall, the recent clashes along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border highlight the fragile security dynamics in the region. Pakistan’s firm military response sends a clear message that any attempts to undermine its sovereignty will be met with overwhelming force, while the government continues to seek long-term peace and stability through vigilant defense and strategic operations.
