Pakistan Strikes Back: Over 70 Afghan Taliban Killed After Unprovoked Border Attacks

In a significant escalation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, Pakistani security forces launched a swift and robust counterattack after Afghan Taliban militants initiated unprovoked firing at multiple locations. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting confirmed on Thursday that the Taliban’s aggressive actions along the border in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) were met with a strong and effective military response. This development underscores the ongoing volatility in the region and Pakistan’s firm stance on defending its territorial sovereignty.

The Ministry’s statement, shared on the social media platform X, highlighted that the Afghan Taliban forces had seriously misjudged the situation by opening fire without provocation. Pakistani troops responded promptly, delivering a decisive blow to the militants in several border sectors, including Chitral, Khyber, Mohmand, Kurram, and Bajaur districts. These areas have long been sensitive zones due to their strategic importance and history of cross-border militancy.

Initial reports from the military indicate that the Pakistani counteroffensive inflicted heavy casualties on the Afghan Taliban fighters, with at least 72 militants killed during the exchange. The operation also resulted in the destruction of multiple Taliban check posts and military hardware, significantly weakening their operational capabilities in the region. The Ministry emphasized that these punitive measures were necessary to send a clear message that Pakistan will not tolerate any attempts to undermine its security.

Reiterating its commitment to safeguarding national borders, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting affirmed that Pakistan remains vigilant and prepared to take all necessary steps to protect its territorial integrity and ensure the safety of its citizens. This incident comes amid heightened tensions in the border areas, where sporadic clashes and militant activity have frequently challenged peace and stability.

Meanwhile, in a related security operation, Pakistani forces conducted a follow-up sanitization sweep in the Zhob district of Balochistan, targeting militants linked to the group Fitna al Khwarij. The military’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), reported that this operation resulted in the elimination of 10 terrorists. This action followed an intelligence-driven raid the previous day, which had already neutralized eight militants in the same district. The security forces tracked and engaged the militants across multiple routes, culminating in a fierce gun battle that further demonstrated Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to combat terrorism within its borders.

These coordinated military responses reflect Pakistan’s broader strategy to maintain stability along its western frontier and counter the threats posed by various militant groups operating in the region. The recent events serve as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by the country in securing its borders against hostile elements and the resolve of its armed forces to confront such threats decisively.
