Social Media Activist Detained for Filming Imran Khan’s Convoy Amid Hospital Transfer

In a recent development near Rawalpindi, law enforcement authorities detained a social media activist who was filming the movement of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s convoy. The incident occurred as Khan was being transported from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) back to Adiala Jail following a medical checkup. The individual, identified as Haider Saeed, was apprehended in the Dahgal Naka area, which lies close to the prison premises, and was subsequently taken to the Adiala Police Post for further questioning.

This event unfolded late Monday night during the high-profile transfer of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, who has been incarcerated since August 2023. Khan’s detention stems from multiple convictions in cases he and his supporters describe as politically motivated, following his removal from office through a parliamentary vote in 2022. The heightened security around his movements reflects the sensitive nature of his imprisonment and the ongoing political tensions surrounding his case.

Haider Saeed’s decision to record the official motorcade outside PIMS reportedly triggered the security response. Authorities are known to maintain strict control over the former premier’s movements, especially during hospital visits, to prevent any unauthorized documentation or potential security breaches. The exact details of the footage and the reasons behind the detention are still under review, but the incident highlights the challenges faced by media activists and the government’s cautious approach to managing Khan’s public image while in custody.

Imran Khan, aged 73, was admitted to PIMS Hospital late Monday for a scheduled medical procedure related to his ongoing eye condition. He received a second dose of an anti-VEGF intravitreal injection, a treatment aimed at addressing his diagnosed central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO). This serious eye ailment has significantly impaired his vision, with medical reports indicating that he retains only about 15% sight in his right eye. The hospital’s statement confirmed the administration of the injection as part of his continued care regimen.

Despite the government’s insistence that Khan is receiving the best possible medical attention, his health remains a subject of concern among his supporters and the wider public. The Supreme Court has been kept informed of his condition through detailed medical reports, underscoring the gravity of his eye disease. Khan is expected to undergo further injections in the coming weeks as part of his treatment plan.

This episode adds another layer to the complex situation surrounding Imran Khan’s incarceration and health challenges. It also raises questions about the balance between security protocols and freedom of expression, particularly in the context of social media activism. As the political climate continues to evolve, incidents like these will likely remain under close scrutiny by both national and international observers.
