Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab officially launched an urban forest initiative along Shahrah-e-Bhutto and EBM Causeway on Tuesday. The project has already seen the planting of 10,000 trees as part of a campaign to enhance the city’s environment and air quality.

Wahab emphasized that the tree plantation drive has been intensified to address escalating environmental challenges and reduce air pollution in Pakistan’s largest metropolis. He described the urban forest as a significant step toward improving Karachi’s ecological conditions and boosting oxygen levels.

“Our goal is to increase oxygen levels in Karachi through extensive tree planting,” Wahab stated during the inauguration ceremony. He highlighted that the initiative aims to mitigate climate change effects while promoting a greener urban landscape through tangible, on-the-ground actions.

The mayor noted that the plantation includes neem, gulmohar, and other seasonal tree species, which are being planted in phases along Shahrah-e-Bhutto. This effort is expected to create a more natural habitat for local birds and wildlife, enhancing biodiversity in the area.

Wahab further explained that the plantation drive on Shahrah-e-Bhutto is part of a broader urban greening strategy that will be implemented in multiple phases across Karachi, reflecting a long-term commitment to environmental sustainability in the city.
