Apple iPhone 18 Launch Expected in September 2026 with Foldable Model

Apple is anticipated to launch its next generation of smartphones in September 2026, maintaining its established pattern of fall product introductions. The upcoming lineup is expected to feature the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and a novel foldable model, potentially named the iPhone Ultra. Although Apple has not officially confirmed these details, industry trends and recent developments provide strong indications about the timing and nature of the announcement.

Historically, Apple holds its major product event in early September, where it reveals the latest iPhones along with updates to other devices such as the Apple Watch and audio accessories. These keynote events typically occur on a Tuesday or Wednesday within the first half of the month. Looking ahead to 2026, the second week of September appears to be the most probable window, with Wednesday, September 9 emerging as a likely date. This timing aligns with Apple’s usual approach of avoiding events immediately after the US Labor Day holiday, which falls on September 7 that year, allowing sufficient time to accommodate international media and guests at its Cupertino headquarters.

Alternatively, the launch could take place during the following week, between September 14 and 16, though this would slightly delay the overall schedule. Based on Apple’s previous release patterns, an earlier date remains more consistent with its typical rollout strategy.

The keynote will mark the official start of Apple’s annual iPhone release cycle. Besides unveiling the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, the company is expected to introduce its first foldable iPhone, with “iPhone Ultra” being a strong candidate for the name. This new category could impact production timelines, as foldable displays present additional technical challenges. While Apple has managed timely launches for redesigned iPhone variants before, the complexity of foldable technology might lead to a staggered release compared to the Pro models.

In conjunction with the hardware launch, Apple is likely to release its latest operating system, presumably iOS 27, which will come pre-installed on the new devices. The public rollout of the software update typically happens within a week after the keynote. Should the event occur on September 9, the software could become available around September 15 or 16. Apple usually announces this schedule during the keynote, giving users of older devices a clear timeline for the update.

Pre-orders for the new iPhones generally open a few days after the announcement. Following tradition, orders for the iPhone 18 Pro series could begin on Friday, September 11. Apple often starts pre-orders early in the morning Pacific Time, with many customers preparing in advance by adding devices to their online carts. This phase is critical for assessing demand, particularly for new or redesigned models, and it can influence shipping schedules in the subsequent weeks.

Media reviews of the new iPhones are normally published in the days leading up to the official release, providing consumers with hands-on evaluations to help inform their purchase decisions. Retail availability usually follows on the Friday of the week after the keynote. Based on this pattern, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max could be available in stores as early as September 18.

However, the foldable iPhone Ultra might have a different release timeline. Due to the technical complexities of foldable displays, Apple may delay its availability by a week or more. This staggered release could also help sustain media interest beyond the initial launch period.

The iPhone 18 series is poised to be one of Apple’s most closely observed product launches in recent years, especially with the introduction of a foldable device. While exact dates remain unconfirmed, Apple’s consistent release habits offer a reliable framework for what to expect. More definitive information is expected to surface in the coming months as production advances and invitations for the keynote event are distributed.
