In a significant breakthrough, law enforcement authorities in Kohat have apprehended two individuals suspected of involvement in the tragic murder of Dr Mehwish, a respected female physician. The case, which had gripped the local community, was resolved after a meticulous and technology-aided investigation carried out under complex security circumstances. This development brings some relief to the victim’s family and the wider public demanding justice.

The fatal incident occurred on the evening of February 22, 2026, at approximately 8:05 pm, in the vicinity of Usman Mosque, situated near the Kohat Development Authority (KDA) Hospital. details gathered from the scene, unidentified armed men opened fire on Dr Mehwish, resulting in her immediate death. The sudden and brutal nature of the attack shocked residents and hospital staff alike, prompting an urgent response from police units.

Responding swiftly, police teams secured the crime scene, ensuring no evidence was disturbed. They conducted a thorough forensic examination, collecting crucial physical evidence that would later prove instrumental in the investigation. A formal case was registered against unknown assailants, marking the beginning of an intensive probe aimed at bringing the perpetrators to justice.

During initial inquiries, the victim’s husband, Muhammad Hasnain, who also resides in the KDA area, informed investigators that there were no known personal disputes or enmities involving his wife. This statement helped police to widen their investigative scope, exploring multiple angles and potential motives behind the attack. The provincial government took a serious stance on the matter, demanding an immediate and comprehensive report from law enforcement agencies and emphasizing the need for prompt arrests.

To expedite the investigation, District Police Officer Shehbaz Elahi formed specialized teams comprising senior police officials including the SP City, SP Investigation, DSP Headquarters, and the Station House Officer of KDA Police Station. These units undertook coordinated intelligence-driven operations, conducting raids across various locations to track down suspects. The use of modern investigative techniques, combined with human intelligence, played a pivotal role in piecing together the events leading to the murder.

During the course of their operations, police recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting, as well as a motorcycle and a rickshaw reportedly utilized by the suspects to flee the scene. Through diligent efforts, the accused were identified as Hayat Gul and Saif Ali. Following a series of well-planned raids spanning multiple districts, both men were arrested from the Ghamkol No. 3 area, bringing a crucial chapter in the investigation to a close.

Preliminary interrogations revealed that the murder may have been triggered by a verbal confrontation between Hayat Gul and Dr Mehwish. This altercation reportedly escalated, culminating in a retaliatory act of violence. Further investigations are ongoing to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to gather additional evidence. Authorities have assured that a robust, evidence-backed challan will be submitted to the court to ensure that the accused face strict legal consequences.

Meanwhile, social media platforms have circulated reports suggesting that the attack followed a dispute between Dr Mehwish and a male attendant at the hospital. It is said that the doctor had asked the attendant to vacate a women’s waiting area, leading to a brief argument. The suspect allegedly intercepted her outside the hospital premises and opened fire, resulting in the fatal shooting. While these reports have added a layer of public interest, police continue to verify all details as part of their comprehensive inquiry.

This case highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining security and delivering justice in sensitive situations. The successful arrests demonstrate the effectiveness of combining traditional policing with modern technology and intelligence gathering. As the legal process unfolds, the community awaits a fair trial and hopes for closure in the wake of this tragic loss.
