Ed Sheeran has been forced to cancel both of his upcoming concerts scheduled for September 25 and 26 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, as a powerful nor’easter threatens to impact the New England region.
The cancellations were announced on Friday by promoter Messina Touring Group, citing severe weather warnings affecting Boston and surrounding areas. This development comes amid a turbulent period for Sheeran’s Loop Tour, which has faced significant controversy in recent weeks.
Earlier disruptions to the tour included the removal of rapper Macklemore from the lineup following his pro-Palestinian remarks during previous performances. Robert Kraft, owner of Gillette Stadium, opposed Macklemore’s participation, labeling his comments as hate speech and refusing to allow the venue to host him. This decision led several other supporting artists to withdraw from the tour in solidarity with Macklemore.
Sheeran clarified that the choice to exclude Macklemore was made by promoters and venues, not by himself. The lineup changes sparked further complications, particularly regarding ticket refunds. Nearly 200 consumers reached out to the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office after encountering difficulties obtaining refunds, prompting intervention by Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell.
Following this, Ticketmaster agreed to permit affected customers to request refunds as of Thursday. With the cancellation of both Gillette Stadium concerts due to the storm, fans who purchased tickets through Ticketmaster will now receive automatic refunds.
These cancellations also mean that Sheeran will miss out on what would have been his eighth and ninth performances at Gillette Stadium, where he previously set the venue’s single-show attendance record during his 2023 tour.
