The 2026 Actor Awards ceremony turned into an emotional evening as the late Catherine O’Hara was honored with a posthumous award just weeks after her passing. The beloved actress, who died on January 30 at the age of 71, was recognized for her outstanding performance as Patty Leigh in the comedy series The Studio. Her win in the category of Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series deeply touched everyone present.

Since O’Hara was no longer with us to accept the award herself, her co-star and the show’s co-creator, Seth Rogen, stepped forward to receive the honor on her behalf. Rogen’s acceptance speech was heartfelt and moving, capturing the essence of O’Hara’s spirit and the profound impact she had on those who worked with her. His words resonated strongly with the audience, many of whom were visibly moved by the tribute.

Rogen spoke candidly about the privilege of accepting the award in her name, emphasizing how proud O’Hara would have been to be acknowledged by her peers in the acting community. He recalled the unique blend of warmth and fearless creativity that defined her approach to her craft. him, O’Hara was not only a consummate professional but also a generous collaborator who constantly sought to elevate the material.

One of the most striking revelations from Rogen’s speech was how O’Hara would meticulously rewrite her scenes before filming, often sending detailed notes to him and co-creator Evan Goldberg. These rewrites didn’t just improve her own character but enhanced entire scenes and, ultimately, the quality of the show as a whole. This dedication to excellence and teamwork was a hallmark of her work ethic.

Rogen also highlighted a powerful lesson O’Hara embodied: that it is possible to be both a creative genius and a kind-hearted person simultaneously. This sentiment struck a chord with the audience, underscoring the rare combination of talent and humanity that O’Hara represented. He concluded his tribute by encouraging fans and viewers to revisit her extensive body of work, including classic films like Beetlejuice and Best in Show, reminding everyone how fortunate the world was to have witnessed her extraordinary talent.

In the weeks leading up to the awards, O’Hara’s passing had been confirmed by her representative, who revealed she succumbed to a brief illness. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health later disclosed that the immediate cause of death was pulmonary embolism, with rectal cancer identified as the underlying condition. Her death marked the loss of a cherished figure in the entertainment industry.

Throughout her career, O’Hara earned widespread acclaim, including five nominations at the Actor Awards. Her first nomination came in 2011 for her role in Temple Grandin, followed by four more nods for her performance in the hit series Schitt’s Creek between 2020 and 2021. Notably, she and her fellow cast members won the ensemble award in 2021, highlighting the strong camaraderie and collective talent of the show’s team.

Last month, a Catholic Mass was held in Los Angeles on Valentine’s Day to honor O’Hara’s life and legacy, drawing friends, family, and fans together to celebrate her remarkable contributions to film and television. This solemn gathering reflected the deep affection and respect she inspired throughout her life and career.
