Neve Campbell Earns Significantly More Than Courteney Cox in Scream 7 Release

The highly anticipated horror sequel, Scream 7, finally hits theaters today, Friday, February 27, 2026, bringing back familiar faces to the franchise’s loyal fanbase. Central to this return is Neve Campbell, who reprises her iconic role as Sidney Prescott, the franchise’s enduring protagonist. At 52 years old, Campbell has secured a lucrative deal reportedly worth $7 million for her participation in the film, a figure that highlights her pivotal role in the series and her star power within the horror genre.

In contrast, Campbell’s longtime co-star Courteney Cox, who has portrayed the sharp-witted journalist Gale Weathers since the original 1996 Scream, is earning significantly less for the same project. At 61, Cox’s compensation stands at $2 million, underscoring the franchise’s continued focus on Sidney Prescott as the central character driving the storyline and box office success. This stark difference in pay has drawn attention to the evolving dynamics of the cast and the importance of Campbell’s character to the film’s identity.

It is worth noting that Neve Campbell had previously stepped away from the franchise during the 2023 release of Scream VI due to a widely publicized dispute over her salary. Her absence was keenly felt by fans and critics alike, making her triumphant return in Scream 7 one of the most talked-about developments in the horror community this year. Bringing Sidney Prescott back to the narrative reportedly required an additional $500,000 investment to rewrite the script, reflecting the filmmakers’ commitment to integrating her character seamlessly into the new storyline.

This creative decision has also impacted the film’s overall budget, which has increased to $45 million, a notable rise from the $35 million allocated for the previous installment. The increased funding reflects the producers’ confidence in the franchise’s continued profitability and the value of reuniting the original cast members. Fans have expressed their excitement on social media, with many eagerly counting down the days until the film’s release. One enthusiastic follower commented on Campbell’s post, expressing joy that Sidney would once again be at the forefront of the story and praising Campbell’s deserved success.

Meanwhile, Courteney Cox recently shared a lighter moment related to the franchise during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The conversation turned nostalgic when Fallon humorously donned a wig mimicking Cox’s distinctive baby bangs from Scream 3, a look that has become a beloved meme over the years. Cox, who was promoting Scream 7, laughed heartily at the sight and clarified that the infamous bangs were her own styling choice, not a result of the makeup team’s work. She admitted to having only one set of bangs during filming, which Fallon affectionately dubbed “microbangs.”

The playful exchange highlighted Cox’s good humor about her past fashion choices, with her jokingly warning Fallon not to wear the wig in public, as it was “the worst you’ve ever looked.” This lighthearted moment provided a contrast to the serious discussions about pay disparities and underscored the camaraderie and enduring appeal of the Scream cast as they continue to engage audiences decades after the original film’s release.
