Jaafar Jackson Discusses Portraying Michael Jackson in Upcoming Biopic

Jaafar Jackson is optimistic about his role in the forthcoming biopic Michael, which focuses on his legendary uncle and is scheduled for release on April 24, 2026. The film highlights Michael Jackson, widely celebrated as one of the greatest performers in modern history.

Reflecting on his preparation for the role, the 29-year-old actor explained that he approached the character by observing without judgment, aiming to capture more than just the iconic public persona. He emphasized that beyond the well-known moments, there exists a profound emotional dimension that has rarely been explored.

Jaafar revealed that embodying Michael on stage allowed him to channel the nervous energy and truly bring the character to life. Interestingly, he kept his casting a secret from his family for an entire year. When his mother, Alejandra Genevieve Oaziaza, finally saw his portrayal, she was deeply moved, finding it difficult to connect the on-screen figure to her son.

As the son of Jermaine Jackson, Michael’s older brother, Jaafar carries a personal connection to the story. Meanwhile, the production of the biopic has experienced delays. Initially set for an April 2025 release, the film’s schedule was pushed back to allow for reshoots and editing. This revision was necessary to address legal requirements and the oversight of Michael Jackson’s estate.

In a significant development, the adjustments to the film’s finale also leave open the possibility for future sequels, suggesting that the story of Michael Jackson may be explored further in subsequent installments.
