Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said the Sindh Investment Conference in Shanghai would open new Chinese investment opportunities in the province. Speaking to media, he promised that the Sindh government would provide full protection and one-window investment facilities to Chinese investors.
The conference, held under the aegis of the Sindh government, was attended by around 400 representatives of more than 100 companies from China and other countries. Murad Ali Shah said 16 memorandums of understanding were signed with Chinese firms, and other agreements were signed between various private sector businesses.
Sindh pitches energy, mining and digital investment
The chief minister said he hoped Karachi would advance in the way Shanghai has. He cited cooperation opportunities in Thar coal, electric vehicles and the setting up of charging infrastructure.
He said Sindh was seeking investment in wind and solar energy, Thar coal, agriculture and digital development. He also said the province contributes more than 27 percent of the national economy.
Murad Ali Shah added that the second phase of CPEC placed more focus on industry, agriculture, minerals and technology. He said Thar has vast coal and granite deposits, and that Sindh’s wind corridor could generate over 50,000 megawatts of electricity.
Dhabeji zone among projects floated at meeting
Billions of dollars in development and industrial projects were floated during the investment meeting. These included the CPEC preferential project Dhabeji Special Economic Zone.
The zone covers over 1,530 acres and comes with a 10-year income tax exemption and a duty-free machinery facility.
