Libya pledges help for Pakistan’s crude oil imports

Pakistan’s Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik met Libya’s Minister of Oil and Gas, Dr. Khalifa Rajab Abdulsadek, in Riyadh. The two sides agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation, particularly on crude oil imports. Libya’s minister said his country would help Pakistani companies lock in crude supplies.

Crude imports and refinery upgrades

Both sides also showed interest in sharing technical know-how to help modernise refineries in their countries. The discussions focused on strengthening supply arrangements and expanding practical collaboration in the oil sector.

Gas and energy talks with Qatar and Türkiye

Separately, Malik met Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, to discuss liquefied natural gas cooperation. He also held talks with Türkiye’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, on energy ties. Bayraktar said a seismic survey vessel run by Turkish Petroleum is due to reach Pakistan next month to help search for oil and gas.

IMF presses Pakistan to end fuel relief scheme

Last month, Pakistan launched a fuel relief scheme offering discounted products to eligible motorcycle riders, rickshaw operators and small-car owners. The IMF has urged the government to phase it out, citing its fiscal cost and wide coverage. Despite the lender’s concerns about the burden of fuel subsidies amid rising global energy prices, the government has kept the scheme running.
