K-Electric, the sole electricity supplier for Karachi, has advised its consumers to update their Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) and mobile numbers with the company. Doing so could qualify them for an exemption from advance income tax, the company said in a social media post.
Under the Government of Pakistan’s Finance Act 2021, a 7.5 per cent advance income tax applies to monthly electricity bills above Rs25,000 for residential consumers not listed on the Federal Board of Revenue’s Active Taxpayers List.
