Pakistani trade delegation tours Romania’s largest dairy farm

A trade delegation from Pakistan has visited Romania’s largest milk-producing farm, located near Bucharest, to examine possible cooperation in the dairy and agricultural sectors. The visit was arranged by the Pakistan-Romania Business Council (PRBC), which said the delegation was led by Atif Farooqi.

Farooqi serves as head of the delegation and as Romania’s honorary consul-designate in Sindh, the council said in a press release.

Scale and operations of the Romanian dairy farm

The delegation was told the family-owned enterprise is in its first generation and covers 7,000 hectares. It grows its own grain and silage for livestock and sells any surplus on the market. Its herd includes 7,000 Holstein milking cows, a breed known for the highest yields worldwide, along with a faster-growing meat breed.

Management said every operation is run using up-to-date computerised equipment. Raw milk is delivered daily by the farm’s own tankers to a major dairy factory in Brasov, and a large biogas plant is expected to begin operating soon.

Investment and halal meat export possibilities

Talks identified several openings for Pakistani businesses, including supplying trained workers and investing in the owner’s plan to expand the herd to 20,000 milking cows. Bank loans carrying 8 to 10 percent interest were described as a heavy burden, the PRBC said.

Participants also discussed a possible halal slaughtering facility to export meat to the Middle East and other Muslim nations. The owner indicated openness to other partnership arrangements that would benefit both sides.

Thanks extended to embassy and ambassador

The PRBC thanked Romanian Embassy staff and Dr Dan Stoenescu, Romania’s ambassador to Pakistan, for helping make the trip a success.
