Government Advances Privatisation of State Life and Major Airports

The government has taken a significant step towards privatising the State Life Insurance Corporation of Pakistan by initiating the process to appoint a financial adviser. This move is part of the broader privatisation strategy aimed at enhancing efficiency and attracting private sector investment.

The appointment of a financial adviser is a crucial phase in the privatisation process, as this expert will provide guidance on valuation, structure the transaction, and prepare the entity for potential investors. This development marks the latest advancement in the government’s ongoing divestment efforts.

Meanwhile, the three largest airports in the country—Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi—continue to be integral components of the government’s privatisation programme. The Asian Development Bank is expected to be selected as the financial adviser for the Lahore and Karachi airports. Additionally, a consulting consortium for the privatisation of Islamabad International Airport is anticipated to be finalized shortly.

These initiatives form part of a comprehensive government agenda designed to attract private investment, improve the operational performance of state-owned enterprises, and alleviate the financial burden on the national treasury. The inclusion of major airports alongside State Life underscores the government’s commitment to this expansive privatisation drive.
