Fire and Smoke Reported Near Aramco Facility in Riyadh Amid Rising Tensions

A substantial plume of smoke accompanied by visible flames was reported near a Saudi Aramco facility in Riyadh on Saturday, as observed by a local resident. This incident has raised concerns given the strategic importance of Aramco’s infrastructure in the region.

At present, Saudi authorities have not issued any official statement confirming the occurrence or cause of the fire. Similarly, Saudi Aramco has not provided any immediate comments regarding the situation, leaving details about the extent of the damage or the origin of the fire unclear.

In a significant development, this event unfolds amid heightened hostilities between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement. The Houthis have intensified their attacks on Saudi cities and critical energy infrastructure in recent months, escalating regional tensions. Notably, last week the Houthis claimed responsibility for missile and drone strikes targeting Aramco facilities in Yanbu.

Saudi defense forces responded by intercepting six ballistic missiles aimed at the Taif and Yanbu areas, although no damage to Aramco installations was reported at that time. Meanwhile, there has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the fire near the Riyadh facility, and investigations into the cause are likely ongoing as the situation develops.
