Pakistan Condemns Israeli Airstrikes on Syrian Abu al-Duhur Airbase

Pakistan has issued a strong condemnation of the recent airstrikes conducted by Israeli forces on the Abu al-Duhur Airbase located in Syria’s Idlib province. The attack took place near Aleppo, close to the Turkish border, on Tuesday. Israel justified the strikes by alleging that Syria was preparing to allow Turkish troops to deploy at the base, a move it claims would breach an agreed security status quo and threaten its national security.

In an official statement, Pakistan’s Foreign Office described the Israeli operation as a blatant violation of international law, warning that such provocative actions risk further destabilizing the already fragile peace and security in the region. The statement reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast solidarity with the Syrian people, emphasizing full support for Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and aspirations for peace and prosperity.

Pakistan also called upon the international community to take decisive steps to halt the repeated breaches of international law by Israeli forces. It urged global actors to hold Israel accountable for its destabilizing activities that undermine regional stability.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office expressed concerns that Syria’s alleged plan to permit Turkish military deployment at Abu al-Duhur would violate a security arrangement with Israel. Netanyahu’s administration warned that such a deployment would be intolerable due to the security threat it poses.

Turkey’s presidency responded by dismissing Netanyahu’s claims as politically motivated attempts to pursue expansionist and destabilizing agendas ahead of Israel’s elections. It stressed that enduring peace in the region can only be achieved if Israel respects international law and ceases its aggressive and coercive policies.

The airstrikes come amid escalating tensions between Israel and Turkey, with both nations engaged in military activities within Syria. Turkey, which possesses NATO’s second-largest army and supports Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa’s government, accuses Israel of efforts to destabilize Syria and undermine its administration. Ankara has repeatedly called for international pressure on Israel to respect Syria’s territorial sovereignty.

In a related development, Tom Barrack, the US special presidential envoy for Syria and Iraq, stated that Washington is working to establish a deconfliction mechanism involving Israel, Turkey, and Syria. He noted that the US already facilitates information-sharing and dialogue among these parties to reduce tensions following the recent strikes.
