Chelsea have announced that captain Reece James has undergone successful knee surgery, the Premier League club said on Friday.
The England international has missed the club’s past two league games, a 3-0 defeat by Brentford and a 5-1 win over Bournemouth.
The club said James was absent from the Bournemouth match at Stamford Bridge while medical assessments were carried out on an injury he suffered in training.
Those assessments confirmed that surgery was the required course of action. Chelsea said James has already started his recovery, with support from the club’s medical department at Cobham during rehabilitation. The team is sixth in the Premier League and visits Everton on Saturday.
