The Rawalpindi Traffic Police have unveiled a comprehensive traffic management plan ahead of the Pakistan-Sri Lanka T20 series and the forthcoming three-nation cricket tournament. Over 315 officers will be deployed during the matches and practice sessions to ensure smooth traffic flow.
The first practice match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka is scheduled for Tuesday, October 6, at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. To facilitate team movements and spectator access, additional traffic personnel will be stationed along key routes to manage congestion and maintain order.
Traffic will be temporarily redirected to alternative routes for the shortest possible duration whenever teams move between their designated venues. Specifically, vehicles traveling from Islamabad will be diverted from Faizabad towards the Expressway during team transfers.
Conversely, traffic coming from Rawalpindi towards Islamabad will face staged diversions at three key points: initially from 6th Road, followed by Rehmanabad, and finally Chandni Chowk. During match times, Stadium Road will be completely closed in both directions between 9th Avenue Chowk and Double Road to ensure security and smooth operations.
Vehicles approaching Stadium Road from Islamabad via 9th Avenue will be rerouted through Faizabad and IJP Road to enter Rawalpindi. Similarly, traffic heading from 9th Avenue towards Islamabad will be directed to the capital via Faizabad.
To accommodate cricket fans, parking facilities have been arranged at three different locations. The traffic police have committed to providing real-time updates on the city’s traffic conditions during the matches through their official social media channels and local radio stations.
Chief Traffic Officer Rawalpindi, Farhan Aslam, appealed to the public for cooperation, emphasizing that smooth traffic flow depends significantly on citizens’ support. He assured that traffic police would be fully engaged in managing the city’s traffic throughout the events.
These arrangements come as part of the broader T20 cricket schedule in Rawalpindi, which features Pakistan and Sri Lanka competing in a series that also includes a third nation, making it a highly anticipated sporting event in the city.
