Cameron Green Sidelined from Bowling in IPL 2026 Due to Back Injury

Cricket Australia has announced that all-rounder Cameron Green will not be bowling for the time being in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 due to a managed lower-back injury. His franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has been fully briefed on the situation. The 26-year-old, who became the most expensive overseas signing in IPL history after being acquired by KKR for INR 25.2 crore, is currently following a phased recovery program.

A spokesperson from Cricket Australia explained that Green has been advised to temporarily refrain from bowling as part of his rehabilitation process. “Cameron has a lower-back injury that is being managed, necessitating a short break from bowling,” the board stated. “He is gradually rebuilding his bowling workload in India and is expected to resume bowling within 10 to 12 days.”

This update follows KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane’s recent comments, where he deflected questions about Green’s absence from the bowling attack during their six-wicket loss to the Mumbai Indians, directing inquiries to Cricket Australia. Despite the setback, Rahane expressed confidence in Green’s eventual return as a full all-rounder, emphasizing the balance he could add to the team.

“Once Green starts bowling again, the team combination will change,” Rahane said. “At present, we need to evaluate our balance, especially with bowling options. Hopefully, he will resume soon so we can finalize the ideal lineup.”

Notably, Cameron Green has not bowled in competitive matches since the conclusion of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 earlier this month. His workload has been carefully managed due to a history of injuries, including a stress fracture that sidelined him from bowling for over a year between September 2024 and October 2025.
