Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has created an 11-member panel to keep watch over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to sources. The body will oversee governance, policing and routine administration in the province, where emergency measures and governor’s rule have been put in place.
Ishaq Dar to convene panel with cabinet ministers and allies
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has been named convener. Rana Sanaullah, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Amir Muqam, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui are also members. Representatives of the PPP, BAP and IPP are set to join as well, the sources added.
Panel distinct from governor’s advisory council
The monitoring panel is separate from an 11-member technocratic advisory council formed after governor’s rule took effect on October 11. That council is headed by Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and assists him in running provincial affairs on behalf of the federal government. The prime minister chaired the panel’s first session on Monday, where participants reviewed the provincial situation and discussed steps to strengthen law and order and bring relief to residents, sources said.
