Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has said that the people of the province welcome the presidential move to impose an emergency, which he said would help them seek peace, stability, development and prosperity. He made the remarks in a video message addressed to residents after the emergency and governor’s rule were imposed in the province.
President Asif Ali Zardari earlier signed a summary forwarded by the federal cabinet for the imposition of an emergency and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The move came amid concerns over the law and order situation in the province.
Kundi urges residents to back security forces
Kundi said citizens had decided they would no longer support what he called “Fitna al-Khawarij”. He said residents would stand alongside security forces in the fight against terrorism until the end.
According to Kundi, the people of the province want a peaceful and prosperous future rather than unrest and instability. He added that they also seek brotherly relations and cooperation with other provinces, and he described them as peace-loving people who do not support terrorism or violent activities.
Warnings over unrest and violations of the law
Kundi urged residents not to violate the law, incite unrest or take part in rioting. He warned that anyone who disrupted public order or took the law into their own hands would face strict action in accordance with the law.
