President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have agreed to introduce an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), according to an official statement. The two leaders met at the President’s House in Islamabad to review the country’s political and security situation.
Cabinet and parliament to weigh KP emergency
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called a federal cabinet meeting on 11 October 2026, where approval for the emergency will be sought. The cabinet is expected to give its approval on Monday.
A session of both houses of parliament, the National Assembly and the Senate, has been summoned for 13 October 2026 to seek their backing for the emergency.
Who attended and assisted the talks
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the Attorney General, law and justice minister Rana Sanaullah and Senator Ahad Cheema took part in the meeting.
Sherry Rehman, Naveed Qamar, Saleem Mandviwalla and Dr Asim assisted the president.
